HOTEL GROUP RATE:
The Tropicana Hotel and Casino has provided very reasonable rates for the Duel weekend: $99 for Friday and Saturday (Jan 8-9) and $49 for Thursday (Jan 7) and Sunday (Jan 10); plus tax; these rates are available until Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time or until the block is filled. To take advantage of these rates, please mention the Duel in the Desert (Block Code SDID101), when making your reservation.

Please keep in mind that the Tropicana has also given us an incredible deal on the fencing venue but we are required to fill our room block. If you want to support the Duel and wish to see it continue, please stay at the Tropicana and mention Duel in the Desert when you make your reservation. For additional encouragement we have implemented the following policy: All fencers staying at the Tropicana will receive a free drink ticket good for the Saturday Night Fights.

Armorers will be available Thursday night from 5PM to 7PM to check your equipment.

Veteran events need at least 12 entries to be fenced separately otherwise events will be fenced mixed.

EVENT FEES:
Pre-payment is required for pre-registration.
Now through midnight 01/05/2010 - registration is $50.00 + $70.00 per event.
Triple fees after 01/05/2010 and at the door – registration $150.00 + $210.00 per event.

To help our tournament run more smoothly, pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

SIGNED WAIVER REQUIRED
All fencers must sign a waiver/informed consent form. Those fencers under the age of 18 must have a parent or LEGAL guardian sign the form. No one will be allowed to fence without this completed form.

USFA RULES APPLY. Current competitive membership of the USFA required (membership will be available at the venue). You must be prepared to show proof of USFA membership or at the door, fill out a membership form and pay $60 - credit card or separate check - NO CASH. Persons under the age of 18 MUST have a parent's signature on this form.

PRE-REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
PRE-PAYMENT is required for pre-registration. Fencers may pre-register on line with a credit card on AskFred.net. If you pre-register on askFRED, you will be emailed a waiver with your confirmation. Please print off the WAIVER, and bring the signed waiver with you to check-in.

You may also pre-register by mail by printing a copy of the Entry Form and mailing the signed registration form, along with a check made payable to Southern Nevada Fencing to:

Please include a self addressed stamped envelope and confirmation and waiver will be mailed to you. There will be a $25.00 charge on all returned checks. If you have difficulty with your pre-registration, please email the organizers and we will take care of it for you.

AGE CATEGORIES:
Entry in all events is open to all current USFA competitive members or foreign fencers holding a current FIE card, provided they have a birth year of 1996 or earlier for the 2009-2010 season or are on the Junior points list in the weapon they wish to compete.

EQUIPMENT POLICIES:
All events will be electric. Equipment checks will consist of masks, body cords and lames. Sabre cuffs and underarm protectors are REQUIRED.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Men's/Women's Events: One round of pools, 5-touch bouts with a 3-minute time limit. 100% advancing to DE of 15 touches, no repêchage, no fence off for 3rd.

Veteran Events: One round of pools, 5-touch bouts with a 3-minute time limit. 100% advancing to DE of 10 touches, no repêchage, no fence off for 3rd.

Initial seeding, seeding after pools and final placements will be posted in the venue. Fencers are responsible for verifying the posted lists, and signing their pool and DE sheets. Initial seeding will be based on Senior national point standings in Men's and Women's events and Veteran Combined national point standings after December NAC, followed by classification and year.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
Saturday night exhibition bout formats will be announced that evening. Formal attire optional.

Classification Changes:
Must be submitted by Tuesday, December 8, 2009 to Colleen at foilandepeemom@cox.net, please include your name, weapon earning the new classification, date, location of the tournament and website where results can be found. Classifications earned at the December NAC will be updated accordingly.

Refund Policy:
For refund of event fee(s), withdrawals must be submitted in writing to Colleen at foilandepeemom@cox.net by the Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Registration fees are nonrefundable.
