The Steve Sobel event is a Regional Open Circuit (ROC) sponsored bt the NJ Division of the USFA. ROCs are tournaments for the Open or Division I-A fencer who seeks competitive opportunities beyond the local and sectional level. Top 10% qualify for Div 1A.

This ROC honors Mr. Stephen Sobel, a two time US Fencing President, a member of the US Fencing Hall of Fame, and a former vice president to the US Olympic Committee for his dedication and contribution to the sport of fencing. The NJ Division will be honored by the presence of Mr. Sobel throughout the duration of the tournament to present the awards to the finalists.

This is a Regional Open Circuit event. The top 10% with a minimum of four fencers in each event will auto qualify for the Division 1A event at the 2010 Summer Nationals.

Preregistration opens on 07/24/2009.

Online registration is now closed. You can register late at the door for $85. Be there at least 30 minutes prior to the close of registration.

Tournament Fee $45.00. Tournament fee is non-refundable.

Pre-registration per event with payment - $20. No refunds after September 28.
Late registration will be $20 additional per event starting September 28.

"Senior" refers to a USFA requirement that all fencers participating in open events must have birth years of 1996 and earlier.

Medals will be awarded for 1st through 8th place for each event.

Format and Sanctioning: This tournament is sanctioned by the New Jersey Division of the USFA. The format for each event consists of a round of pools followed by a direct elimination round. 100% promotion from pools to DEs. There is no fence-off for third place. All fencers are required to comply with the USFA standards for uniforms and equipment. Each fencer should bring at least two functional weapons and body cords that meet USFA requirements. There are no exceptions to the attire and equipment rules. You must have a current USFA membership or join the USFA at the event. You must show your USFA card or have proof that payment has been made.

Referees to be observed:

For referees with rating 9,8,7, or 6 with a need to be observed by the FOC representative for a possible rating increase, please contact Abdel Aziz abdelwahab_a@hotmail.com. Referees will assist on a voluntary basis and will have to be dressed in USFA attire (Black/Navy jacket, and Black/gray slacks)
